Couple of notes on my blog, as per usual...
Now how could anyone find anything to complain about in that?! Most amusing!!
As a father who lost his only daughter to a serial murderer a decade ago I certainly could. This cartoon has brought back so many awful memories.
Now I´m not complaining because I truly believe that its up tp parents to guard their children from the bad stuff on the internet, not that this is bad stuff, but I would just like to draw your attention to the fact that the style of your cartoons is very cute so they are going to appeal to children, especially young girls, and not all children are blessed with responsible parents. My ten year old daughter likes to look at cartoons on the internet and came across your site from another website, I believe. I was really shocked when she came to me last week asking me what an "anal probe" was, and not having seen myself where she had come across this term, I found myself really worried that she had come across some reference to anal sex on an adult site. She showed me your site, which is quite harmless, so I was very glad to not have to try and explain so adult a topic to one so young, I managed to skip around it quite easily. I didn´t ban her from the site, but I found her earlier giggling over your latest cartoon, which I found quite disturbing, her giggling at violent material that is. Again, I consider myself responsible, but perhaps you should display an adult content warning, most children won´t access sites with such a warning if they have been told often enough, although I´m not naive about how curious they can be. Even so it would serve as a guidance to parents who often find it hard to tell which cartoons are meant for a mature audience, and like I said before, your cartoons are really cute. Thanks for allowing me to comment.
My heartfelt sympathies to the gentlemen above for his terrible tragedy. I´m sorry I forgot to comment earlier, but I was thinking only of my own daughter, I hope you understand.
A concerned mother, it's a fair point. We'll consider putting some sort of identifying label when we're next tampering with the design.
I want to know why so many negative commentors spend so much time writing their pointless posts.
Please tell me these comments are all part of a clever marketing play to generate controversy and therefore more traffic.
If it is a marketing ploy... great work! If not... then, well... GET A LIFE NAY-SAYERS!
I think the way you so casually resort to gratuitous violent imagery betrays a lack of imagination on your own part. Your pun could easily have been conveyed if Steven had an ice-bag on his head and was holding a small heater close to his chest. The artist responsible notes over on his own blog how he relishes any oppertunity he´s given to draw blood. I find this disturbing.
I think Bif is writing all the comments.
And your flagrant use of a dangerous hotplate in your cartoon could encourage children to play with them, resulting in disfiguring injuries. Do you want that to happen? DO YOU?!
Pigs.
Bravo! This is marvellous stuff! I have been accused of populism before, nevertheless, please allow me a very slight critique. I commend the artist for remaiining true to his proclivities in rendering a distinctly homoerotic cartoon, yet at a guess I would say the greater part of your readership consists of heterosexual males. Should the head in the box have formerly rested on the slim shoulders of a gorgeous young madamoiselle perhaps the work may have had a broader appeal.
Yes, insightful as ever Val.
So you knew all along who this sick bastard is! And you told me TWICE you had no idea! I demand you put his full name and contact details on this site right now you lying bastards!
Le Marquis De Valmont. I just call him Val for short. I think he mentioned something somewhere about being in exile but I don't think he mentioned any details. Maybe, he'll return and leave his full contact details at some stage. Thank you very kindly for your interest.
Funny comic, but a bit twisted.

I must tell you that Le Marquis is terribly upset that you so crudely took it upon yourself to abbreviate his name. This is not correct decorum, never take the name of a lord in vain. In future, please refer to Le Marquis de Valmont by his full title. When speaking directly to Le Marquis, you may address his godlike presence as "My Most Beloved Marquis". I have also noted the young lady´s interest in Le Marquis in the commentary above. Please forward all fan mail to myself, Ms. Baumgarten, at the address below. Please do not breach standard decorum in the future.
Miss Baumgarten,
Secretary of Le Marquis de Valmont

I had previously told you I would sign in under a pseudynom, but I´m not in the mood for joking around right now. I didn´t think a whole lot of your latest cartoon, but wouldn´t have passed a comment, until the artist´s notes led me to an earlier one - Gray´s Anatomy dated 10/14/2005. I don´t know how this escaped my attention as it´s nothing short of an atrocity. Do you folks really find something humorous in a helpless couple awaiting torture & execution at the hands of a merciless killer? This sort of thing happens all to often in the real world & if you could put yourselves in the mind of a victim I´m not sure you would find it a whole lot of fun. How about you start showing a little empathy for the victims in your cartoons. There was a recent case in the States of a young girl being kidnapped from her own bed & taken out into a nearby forest by her assailant where she was brutally raped. Her attacker didn´t have the stomach to kill her so he buried her there in that godforsaken wilderness while she was still alive. Maybe this could be the subject for your next cartoon? I´m just trying to shock you into reality, because it´s due time you joined the rest of us folks out here in the real world. I´ve said it before & I say it again - shame on you.
Daniel, you make a good point. I share your concerns about the state of our society.
However I do not feel compelled to stop making the cartoons. Perhaps cartoons such as these help me cope with the reality of the insanity depicted in some of our more grotesque cartoons.
Perhaps when I have time I will give your argument more thought and blog a full and proper response. A good discussion around these points would certainly be interesting.
Thanks for your time,
Frank.
I too share your concerns about the state of our society and can only wish that society would show a little concern for the state of my genitals. There is a sea urcheon nestling in my undercarriage who likes to quote T.S. Eliot´s "Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock" whilst causing me no mean measure of discomfort. ("I should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across the floors of silent seas.") While I am not contradicting his displeasure at finding himself confined to my nether regions when he really should be with his aquatic brethren in his natural home, I do wish that he would show even a small modicum of empathy for my own predicament. There really is nothing worse than an itch which you cannot scratch.
Oh gawd... People LIGHTEN UP!! In case you didn't notice... IT'S A CARTOON!!
If it offends you... Go away!
I think it's great! One of my faves actually. But I like dark humour... even though (believe it or not) I have dead friends too!

I would like to inform the webmaster that I have given full consideration to putting your site on our hit list but unfortunately you do not currently qualify, due to the fact that you fall under our classification system as ´Easy Target`. If a trainee programme begins in the interim this evaluation may be altered.
Yours sincerely,

Poor Frankp is speechless.. Ha Ha Ha!!!
I think Frank just couldn´t be bothered answering this nonsense.
I totally agree with you anais, what are you wearing?
fuck you slimeball
Abend. What´s all this then? to sort out some of your confusion I deny any responsibility for this stuff and would prefer if my name wasn´t spread about here anymore. Not that I take offense but still. Here´s a tip for you obvious lovers of French literature: Valmont is the male protaganist in Laclos´ Dangerous Liasons, you may have seen the movie or the other movie based on the same book simply called Valmont. However I believe his title was Comte and not Marquis. Maldoror is considered the original novel of surrealism and was written by Comte de Lautremont. There you go. Hope that helps. Best of luck boys but I got to say this is amusing (at times).
Glad you cleared all that up, Val. Probably a good thing you came in to clear your name too.
Yeah, I don´t relly want to be become Belinda's pen-pal anytime soon, even though i'm sure she's a lovely girl! Still I don't think anyone knows my address so I should be safe enough.

This is a follow up on a previous posting. Unfourtunately, I have yet to recieve any fan mail destined for My Most Beloved Marquis. The only correspondence recieved thus far was that sent by two scoundrels, a B. Barry and a V.M. Griffin. Both were directed to myself and contained certain unsavoury sexual allusions, along with a desire to arrange a rendez-vous. Please address this matter forthwith.
To sort out still more of your confusion I didn´t write the last comment in my name. While I know Frank has been after me for ages I´m still not interested. I´m really glad that I look effeminate in candle-light and hope that I look effeminate in every light seeing as I´m a girl. I have a small collection of French classics (Penguin Ed.) but on my modest income as a waitress I can´t really afford the luxury of exquisite French lingerie. Biff, you have a lot to answer for. I noticed your latest Rules for Commenting so please be so kind as to adhere to them and remove the offending article before I throw a hissy fit.
Article 3 stipulates that "Comments must not contain personal attacks or any material that might be viewed as defamatory". It would seem clear that "Val" above feels that she has suffered such an attack, and most certainly views certain material as defamatory to her own person. Why have the creators not taken action? The creators of this site are guilty of hypocrisy, unnecessary aggression and outright foolishness. There most serious crime is their failure to abide by Article 1 of The Comic Code, which, in layman´s terms, stipulates that a comic ought never take his/her comic self too seriously. Bif and Frank stand guilty as charged. I advocate that all rational visitors declare total war upon these fools, with immediate effect.
Bif and Frank, grow up and get back your sense of humor!x
Em.. I´m not so sure about total war, but I gotta say these pranksters are really clever and witty and, I´m sorry to say, seem to have gotten the better of you guys at BifSniff.
I also think you´re being kinda mean to Val as I´m pretty sure it´s a guy or group of guys who are responsible.. and, I´m sorry to Bif and Frank, but whovever is writing as the French nobleman is really..really... SEXY! x

A) Val, which offends you more - the comments or the fact that everyone thinks you're a girl.
Karina, none of it has been about the pranks. We have not at anytime had a problem with Le Marquis or his secretary - except on one occasion we're some jokes were made about rape and the such. At that stage we received complaints and removed them. Since then, frequently, people have turned up, posting anonymously and making offensive remarks to other commentors. This is not just annoying, it also means that someone could complain about us not doing something to stop it. If you're genuine Karina, I might suggest that you've been duped by this people into thinking it's about something else. We've never put a stop to or deleted any comments that criticised us or the cartoons, only abusive remarks that contained such clever witticisms as 'f***ing faggot' and the likes.
I am, probably, being very mean to poor Val but seeing as I've known him for years, I feel perfectly entitled to be.
Why can´t I be mean to him? Not fair, stop deleting my comments.
I laughed. But then again I am an asshole.
Who isn't? :D
Thanks!
Wow, what a popular cartoon that one is! Look at all the comments you have received. I personally think the cartoon is wickedly amusing. I feel sad for the man whose daughter was murdered but must add, that I imagine watching the evening news may at times bring back haunting memories. For anyone else who is disturbed by some of the cartoons - surf another site! You, the viewer are responsible for what you view. Also, adding any sort of adult content stickers will only make your 'innocent' children want to come back for more. Please, they have seen more on day time television while their skippig school! Nuff said.
Hey Bif
By the way - thanks for the comment. My husband was greatly amused!
Thanks Raven, really glad you like it! Goo dpoint about the advisory stamp too...
... yea alot of people commented and argued... umm i forgot wat the cartoon was even about now, meh like my oppinion counts anyway
