Drug Test Dail Eireann - spread the word…

Drug Test Dail Eireann

Simon, of The Dossing Times had the ingenious idea of responding to Enda Kenny’s suggestion to drug test schoolchildren with a petition to drug test Dail Eireann.

Then Damien Mulley had the brilliant idea of coming up with a logo to spread the word. So here it is, put together by myself, for anyone to use.

Feel free to grab the logo and put it in your sidebar of your website or blog, or put it in a blog post, or wherever you think it might be handy.

At the bottom of this post you will see three different sizes, 200 pixels wide, 150 pixels wide and 100 pixels wide. One of those should fit in your sidebar.

Please, please, please download them and put them on your site with a link to the petition so we can get as many signatures as possible to show Enda what we think of his suggestion.

If you have any difficulty in using them leave a comment and I’ll try to help you if I can.

There’s even an EPS version of the logo (900k) available for those who know what that is - so you can print out posters if you felt inclined!

The final code you’ll need to put on your sidebar or wherever should look like the code in red below - you can copy and paste this code and just change the bit that says ‘URL TO IMAGE ON YOUR OWN SITE GOES HERE’:

It’s a great idea, and I’m featuring it on the Politics.ie Homepage - but I think the use of Enda Kenny is a bad idea - it detracts from the point, and focusses on a single person.

    Just a thought.

    Thanks David!

I don’t know if I agree with you about using Enda though - I mean if enough of Dail Eireann rows in behind him I’d be all for generalising the logo, but for the moment it’s Enda who’s been shooting his mouth off with this nutso idea…

It doesn’t miss the point at all. This is entirely a Fine Gael driven notion and Kenny himself is trying to exploit the fears of parents throughout the country to bolster his own election hopes. Whoever rolls in behind him becomes fair game but he has set himself up to be the figurehead for this campaign and rightly should bare the brunt of the ridicule.

Frank - aren’t you missing a couple of Fada’s? i.e. shouldn’t it be Dáil Éireann?

  5. simon Says:

Have to agree with Bif. It is Enda that is leading this.

  6. Frank (author) Says:

Tom: yes, I took ‘graphical license’ with it. Then I made up the term ‘graphical license’ so I could apply it to my work. Why should poets be theonly ones who can alter things for their art?

  7. Damien Mulley Says:

    The fadas are silent.
    And invisible.

  8. Tom Raftery Says:

    LOL

  9. Tom Raftery Says:

Btw Frank, sample code for the less technical might help on the uptake

  10. Green Ink Says:

Clearly he’s taken the fadas and made a spliff with them.

  11. Frank (author) Says:

Tom, I wondered about that - it’s a tricky one, because if someone needs the code they probably also need to be talked through downloading and ftp-ing the images to their own site.

One thing to do would be host the images and provide the code, which makes it easy but I kind of decided not to do that. Maybe I should though… thoughts?

  12. Frank (author) Says:

    Green Ink: Clearly. :D

  13. Tom Raftery Says:

    Not necessarily Frank,

I put the image on my sidebar but I’m not a coder so I had to find an image link somewhere, View Source, copy the relevant code, edit it, and add that to my sidebar.

Having sample code could help people who are as stupid as me by reducing a couple of the steps we have to take!

  14. Frank (author) Says:

Good point, thanks - added! Have a look and see if it’s clear enough will ya? Cheers!

  15. Tom Raftery Says:

It’s perfect Frank - one more suggestion - would it be better further up with the bold text?

  16. Frank (author) Says:

    Ah - I’m going to call it a day for now - I think it’s ok…

Thanks for that though, when you’re so used to coding your own links etc, you forget it’s not something people automatically know how to do!

    Cheers!

  17. Tom Raftery Says:

    Cool.

[...] Green Ink drew my attention to it and suggested I do a button, so I did! Simple and to the point and should work well with the Drug Test Dáil Éireann button! [...]
