Illustration Friday: Float
"Illustration Friday is a weekly illustration challenge. A topic is posted every Friday and then participants have all week to come up with their own interpretation."
My sister told me about this site, and I thought I would check it out. When I did the topic for the week was 'Float'. It immediately reminded me of a dream I had when I was in college (long times ago) and I decided to actually participate in Illustration Friday instead of just talking about it here.
I didn't do a great job though. I spent ten minutes at it and failed to get the result I wanted. "What do you expect in ten minutes??" I hear you say... but it's 3am and I have to turn in, so here's what I ended up with:

"What the hell is that??" <- readers voice (remember that in comics when you were a kid?)
Anyway, it would take too long to explain what it is, and like I said I have to hit the sack. So I'll leave it up to your imaginations. Leave a comment and tell me what you think it is. This'll be like free therapy for me.
I'm not going to do Illustration Friday every week, but maybe from time to time I'll lash together a quick sketch like tonight for it. It's a great idea, especially if you have the time and don't leave it until 3am.
You can even sign up for an email to let you know what the topics are every week... currently you have to then notify the site that you participated. It'd be nice if you could 'tag' your illustrations or something to automatically ping the site somehow...

Real cool illo. I think this is a game when played with a 'little one' swinging to and fro singing "A leg and a wing to see the king...a one...a two...a threeeee" and on three pretend to throw the child in the air (but didn't let go). When played with grown-ups on birthdays, they really did let go...ouch! Does that make any sense?
Hey darren, thanks for the feedback - unfortunately the reason I wasn't really happy with the illustration was because it DOES look like what you describe... but it wasn't meant to!
I should just pretend that's what it was and take the glory - but I'm too honest...
The dream I had originally was, in short, that people were actually these odd rhino creatures and I was very young... and I had this odd affliction... when stressed out I would begin to float uncontrollably which could be very dangerous because if it happened outside I might just float away. But it was also dangerous because it was like a 'mutation' which was very much frowned upon by society and lord knows what would happen if my secret became public...
for this very reason I became stressed at a 'grown up' party and began to float which was a disaster and my parents tried to get me down...
Eventually my mother soothingly talked me down. But not before certain others noticed...
So I was trying to very quickly get the floating away, shadowy figures in the background, parents trying to grab me. But it looks FAR more like what you described!
Maybe I'll have another go sometime.
In fact maybe I'll develop it into a very odd children's book...
You read it here first!
