Twelve Angry Men at the Everyman

Usually I keep these things fairly quiet around here, but seeing as Bif let the cat out of the bag I may as well tell you I am acting in a production of Twelve Angry Men in the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork, Ireland.

Twelve Angry Men is probably best known as the Sidney Lumet film starring Henry Fonda - it was written for television originally but because of it's setting (twelve men in one room) it was perfect for the stage.

The production I am in currently is directed by Mrion Wyatt and has Alf McCarthy playing the role of Juror No.8 - the role Fonda played in the film. The full cast list is as follows:
  • Judges Voice: Conor Tallon
  • Guard: Martin Condon
  • Juror #1: Paul Creighton
  • Juror #2: Barry O'Reilly
  • Juror #3: Hugh Moynihan
  • Juror #4: Trevor Ryan
  • Juror #5: Frank Prendergast
  • Juror #6: Charlie Ruxton
  • Juror #7: Conor Dwane
  • Juror #8: Alf McCarthy
  • Juror #9: Michael Twomey
  • Juror #10: Michael Murphy
  • Juror #11: David Coon
  • Juror #12: Ian McGurk

The show opened last Monday and runs until the 22nd of July. Tickets are €25 and €18 concessions, but ALL tickets for Monday and Tuesday or only €15.

So there you go, audience reaction has been extremely good, reviews have also been good, however to avoid disappointing you I will tell you now I only have a handful of lines - but on the plus side I am on stage ALL THE TIME :D

Oh and my folks reckoned Alf McCarthy put in a far superior performance to Henry Fonda's - and despite usually being a huge Fonda fan I'm inclined to agree with them.

Fair play and congrats Frank. You coming to Dublin? I have connections in The Abbey, no wait, I meant timed explosives.

Ha, sitting in a pub in Galway on Sunday, I picked up a newspaper(some tabloid muck) to flick through and there's you're ugly mug on the theatre review page. Good review too.

Yes, just to clarify the newspaper that I referred to as 'tabloid muck' was Ireland On Sunday.

Frank is one of twelve angry men? I know that Frank has emotional problems (neuroses?) but come on, he's no angry man. He's emotional.

EMOTIONAL adj. 1 of the emotions: His constant fears shows that he is suffering from a serious emotional disorder 2 showing emotion : His reaction to the movie was so emotional that he began to cry 3 appealing to the emotions : He made an emotional plea for money to help crippled children 4 easly affected by emotions : Emotional people are likely to cry if they hear sad music or read sad stories.

ANGRY adj. 1 feeling or showing anger : He was very angry when he kicked the dog 2 expressing anger : His angry words hurt my feelings 3 Figurative. Inflamed and sore : An infected cut looks angry

So, Beloved Reader, I ask you, is Frank more likely to kick a dog and make you cry or is he himself more likely to be the one found gently weeping at a music venue or cinema near you. Emotional is certainly my preferred adjective in the context of Frank, but let every man, woman, child and beast decide for him/her/small him/ her/itself. Is that PC enough at the end there? One can only hope. Godspeed!

Angry young man is my preferred description of Frank.

Angry Young Man or angry young man 1 one of a group of British writers in the 1950's and 1960's characterized by works that bitterly attack the social and political establishment 2 any young intellectual rebel

Obviously the latter applies. Frank's an angry young man, not an Angry Young Man.
