Notes: Mail Order Bride..?

Wow. Ok so this one is pretty obscure. When Bif sent it to me I told him it was either ingenious or insane. I wasn't sure which. Still not sure really. Either way, it's something a little different for us.

I like that. I tried to reflect the difference in the artwork too. I think I succeeded, though maybe not as much as I would have liked. We were a little worried that it was so obscure that no one would get it, but I think that Bif's title for the cartoon gives the much needed hint at what the gag is.

Besided, if no one gets it, I'll still be proud of it as the most obscure BifSniff cartoon to date. Plus I think it's good for us to try different stuff, in fact I'd like to experiment more as we go on. Try out different ideas, maybe even totally different styles from time to time.

So anyway, I hope we're just too cautious, I hope everyone thinks it's as funny as I do.

Blog Exchange Ads

Blogger won't publish to my 9mmfilm blog. This post was meant to be for there, but I don't have time right now to figure out why Blogger is freaking out about that site so I'll just post it here. It is vaguely related to BifSniff anyways....

I noticed Damien Mulley talking about blog ad exchange ideas, where you display ads for blogs on your site in exchange for having your blog advertised on others blogs. He specifically pointed out Feedshare which does seem like a nice implementation of the idea.

We ran something like this (might have been blogsnob) for a while on BifSniff when we started... was good for starting out, got a couple of clicks here and there, but in the end it's just another ad on your blog and as our search engine traffic grew the amount of clicks coming in from the ad exchange just weren't worth it.

I think with the whole 'community' thing with blogs there would have to be an added dimension to make this idea take off...

For example imagine a scenario where you write a post and before publishing you 'search for ads', this search would take something similar to technorati tags from your post and find related posts - ones that look interesting you approve as ads which then appear at the bottom of your post (or wherever).

A credit system could be worked out so that you get credits for showing ads and blogs with more credits get higher placement on searches for ads...

In other words you link to actual posts that are in someway related to your own post, creating ads that are much more specific and targetted, contextual ads that have been author approved as it were... I imagine something like this would work quite well, although it would take a lot more work to develop I suppose.

Anyway, there's my idle thought for the day.

Irish Blog Awards Shortlist...

We didn't make the shortlist - well, I'm not too surprised or disappointed. Now if there had been a 'best cartoon blog' I think we would have done quite well. Or a 'Best cartoon blog run by two guys called Frank and Bif', well that would have been perfect for us.

Anyway, I was surprised some other, more deserving blogs didn't get shortlisted. Digital Rights Ireland doesn't seem to have made the shortlist - I voted for them, but there you go.

Anyway, thanks for getting us listed for the voting part!

Irish Blog Awards - voting closing today.

Well, due to my recent illness and resulting chaos I never did get a chance to do my usual pimping for votes. Nor did I tell you you could have won an i-mode phone if you voted. Nor did I give you adequate warning that the voting was closing today. Ah well, you know what, all the pimping for the last blog awards was very tiresome anyway.

However, If you RUN you might just be able to vote still, I just got my votes in!

As Bif said, we probably don't deserve to win in the category we're in. Me, I'd like to see Clamnuts win it - Bob Byrne's Clamnuts blog is different and crazy and entertaining and more than deserves an award.

So go on over and vote - you don't have to vote in every category, I tried to vote in as many categories as I could, but some categories I just felt I didn't know the blogs in question well enough.

I gave my vote to Clamnuts though. Go on over and vote! Maybe you'll win one of those phones...

Notes: Glory Days...

Well, I'm on the road to recovery, all my hospital tests came back with good news so they're just pumping me full of antibiotics for a while and that should be that.

So now I just have to catch up on a shed load of work...

This week's cartoon is a first for Bifsniff.com, it features sex. A bawdy cartoon the likes of which is bound to offend somebody. But not you Val, please, just this once surprise us and comment something sane we don't feel obliged to delete :P

I hummed and hawed for a while trying to figure out how to draw this in the least offensive way - and Bif even considered less controversial activities for Grandad - but in the end it had to be sex. It was the only thing that worked. And in the end I opted for a middle ground, where the act itself is implied and yet features enough to shock somewhat.

I guess this is the BifSniff equivalent to those saucy seaside postcards.

Notes: Happy Valentine's Day Massacre...

So I'm out of Hospital. Not that they really know what was wrong with me or anything, they just let me out on bail and I have to see my probation officer on Monday.

Last week for the first time we missed a cartoon. I got sick last Thursday right when I should have been doing the cartoon. I figured I'd shake it off and get it done over the weekend, but instead I found myself on a trolley in the corridor of Accident and Emergency on Saturday night being pumped full of fluids and antibiotics to scare off a serious infection.

Anyway, good ol' Bob Byrne, of Clamnuts fame, stepped up and said he'd be happy to fill in if we needed somebody. And we did. And he did. I'm still not up to cartooning, so Bif sent Bob off the details of the latest cartoon, and we just got the results back.

Damn did Bob do a good job. So much so I for one would like to see more of his stuff on the site - I know I'm putting myself out of a job here, but I wonder if we could convince him to do more stuff - the refreshing change in style kind of works for me.

Thanks so much Bob for taking the pressure of me, and for producing a damn fine cartoon!

Apologies - no cartoon - sick as a dog...

Sorry guys, was struck down with some odd bug or something, possibly food poisoning - except everyone else who ate the same dinner I did is fine...

I can barely type this message... going back to bed with my uncontrollable shivering and exploding head.

I'll get a cartoon done asap... :)

How do people find us?

Thanks to Bif's heroic efforts, we are currently number 1 (yes first place) for the Google search 'deflowering teens'.

Just thought you should know. The things your stats package puts you onto. Somebody else found us by searching for 'best sex', which is also disturbing, but they must have searched an awfully long time coz I don't see us in the results.

Superman is a Dick.

After the disppointment of the Red Meat animated web series I really needed cheering up. Luckily the Red Meat website put me on to this website: Superdickery.com.

It seems Superman is a Dick, and this website has the evidence to prove it. Check out the gallery section, and in particular the 'examples of Superdickery'.

Brilliant.

Superman is a Dick.

Red Meat: Animated web series.

So much to blog, so little time....

Was really disappointed with 'Shadow Rock' an animated web series 'from the secret files of Max Cannon'. Max Cannon is responisble for Red Meat, which I love - but this is pretty awful.

Firstly, as well as not working on a Mac, as pointed out by Cannon himself (who is a Mac user), it also doesn't work in Firefox (my browser of choice)- so I had to start up Internet Explorer to view it. Now this is the fault of Comedy Central's site but it's still a pain in the ass and worth mentioning.

Not to mention their navigation is awful, so you'll be lucky if you can find it

It wasn't worth it.

It's written by Cannon, and he's credited in the artwork credits, but it doesn't reflect his Red Meat style at all. I didn't find it funny in the least. However I wondered if with a style more like Red Meat could it have been funny?

I guess we'll never know.
Disappointing.

To cheer myself up I went and read some GOOD Red Meat.
