Friday Fun - Oxfam Ireland Donation Drive

Every little helps... we got a comment on our site from a blogger called Jason Roe, he commented a load of blogs posting about a small competition he was running in order to find a hotel in Cork. A bit spammy maybe, or maybe I should say 'a publicity excercise which had a vague aroma of spam about it...', thing is it worked because it was obvious there was no ill intent behind it and several people responded to his Hotel search.

First prize was €10, and the second prize was €5

To cut a long story short, I came first and Donncha (from inPhotos) came second. I was notified by email and I thought to myself "you know what, that tenner should go to charity", so I had a look around and found Oxfam Ireland's website.

I headed over to Jason's blog to let him know to donate the money to charity only to find Donncha had had exactly the same response. So €15 went to Oxfam through their online donation form.

Fair play to Jason for donating it immediately (see comments on his post).

So it's Friday and €15 quid has been donated to charity.

I thought about it and decided to match that €15 myself, so now €30 had been donated to Oxfam out of this stunt - anyone else feeling charitable this Friday afternoon?

I'm encouraging anyone who reads this to donate anything between €5 and €15 and to then also encourage someone else to do it.

Come one, it's easy and you'll feel good!

Notes: Playing God...

I'm very happy with this weeks cartoon., I think it's a pretty funny one. I was really happy with how the illustration turned out. From time to time I mention how I sometimes find it odd the way some cartoons just 'happen', or come out right, while others - even if I work and rework them - just won't look right no matter what. This one is one of my favourite illustrations for a while. I think it has all the qualities that make a great BifSniff cartoon.

I don't know what it is. Some cartoons just work for me and then some don't. I think to start with I have to really believe in the joke. I liked this one as soon as I read it, that helps. It's bound to really, it's easier to work on something you love. I think maybe, as I said in the post I linked to above, a bit of a challenge doesn't hurt either. I mean I had to fit in the nurses, the doctors and God all in that little panel :D And the doctors had to be playing God at cards...

Anyway, I hope Bif doesn't read this or he'll be wracking his brains for ways to make EVERY cartoon a challenge... ha ha.

You might recognise the doctors, if you've been visiting here for a while, from the cartoon 'Medical Law' back in May 2005!

This cartoon also gave me a chance to draw people playing Texas Hold Em, which is another love of mine. Not that I am very good at it, but I do love losing my money playing it! I even went to the trouble of setting up my own poker blog so I could chart my progress as I learned how to play. Which brings me to a little plug for my poker stuff - I also have a Spreadshirt shop set up for Poker T-Shirts I design, such as the one pictured here.

I haven't set up a US shop yet on Spreadshirt, but I will get around to it. In the meantime, some of my designs are available on CafePress:
'All In' T-Shirt
'Dead Man's Hand' T-Shirt
'Jackson Five' T-Shirt
'Pocket Rockets' T-Shirt

So, if you're into that kind of thing, check them out!

The Decider... a new Superhero...

Now that I know I can post YouTube videos here you'll be subjected to all kinds of crap... :D
Here's a somewhat amusing and vaguely relevant Daily Show clip:

And if you missed them, check out our own superheroes:

FantasticMan and Evilor

No more heroes, please...

Does Blogger Support YouTube??

Looks like it does... Bob Byrne was asking me earlier and I had no idea... I had trouble putting polls in Blogger posts before, so I thought it might have trouble with any html that wasn't bog standard...

So, here you go - I just threw in the first vaguely interesting one I found on the 'highest rated' or something. Nelly Furtado - now sounds and looks like everyone else.

If you want to see something really great on YouTube, check out this TCAL post... bloody brilliant.
